City of Portland - Assessing/GIS Intern - Assessor's Office

 

The City of Portland’s Assessor’s Office is seeking an intern for the position of Assessing/GIS Intern. The Intern will have the opportunity to experience municipal applications of GIS within the Assessing Office and explore the City’s enterprise GIS capabilities

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

• Assist with various technical GIS and mapping work in the discovery of ownership of certain properties identified as “Unknown”.

• Deed research and survey interpretation will be required.

• Various analysis projects using the City parcel layer.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

• Enrollment in a two or four year degree or certificate program in engineering, environmental sciences, geography, GIS or natural resources, any equivalent combination of experiences and training will also be considered.

• Applicant should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Ability to work carefully and with attention to detail.

• Ability to work equally well independently and with supervision.

• Ability and willingness to understand the mission of the Assessing Office.

• Ability to adapt to on-the-fly changes in project or research request, as part of the daily work flow.

• Applicants should be able to constantly operate desktop computers (both at sitting and standing work stations).

 

Preferred Proficiencies:

 

• Experience with Microsoft Excel and data entry.

• Experience with Google Workspace office productivity applications.

• Proficiency with ArcMap and ArcPro.

• Ability to work carefully and with attention to detail.

• Ability to work equally well independently and with supervision.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Excellent computer skills.

 

Additional Internship Details:

 

• Rate of Pay: $18.50-$20.00 per hour for 20-24 hours per week (depends on level of experience).

• Duration of Internship:24 weeks starting in December and ending in May.

• Schedule: Monday thru Friday, hours can be flexible.

• Location: Assessor’s Office, 389 Congress Street Rm 115, Portland, Maine 04101
