City of Portland - Child Care Site Coordinator (30 Hours) - Before & After the Bell Program

The City of Portland Recreation Division is offering a creative opportunity to engage with the community through a variety of recreational activities. The employee in this position supervises the daily operations of the Before and After School Program at the assigned site. This position is responsible for planning, promoting and conducting daily programs in specialty areas such as arts, crafts, gymnastics, dance, music, cooking, outdoor recreation, etc. in our Before & After School Program.

The Before & After School Program schedule begins in late August: Varied hours to include After School program 2:00pm - 5:30 pm (M-F). Varied Hours for Before School program will be site specific and would range between 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. (M-F). (Slight variations in hours and schedules are possible due to staggered start and end times of the Portland Elementary Schools). Additional hours may be available for evening and weekend community center programming and rentals if desired. During the Summer months this position entails working as a group leader at one of our three Summer Camp sites.

This position is entitled to a $1,000 bonus if hired by January 31, 2025 and remaining in the hired position through the 2024-2025 school year ending June 13, 2025. Bonuses will be paid out following completion of the above dates.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead the day to day planning and operations of the program and the supervision of its staff and participants.
• Lead in ensuring all programming provides an inclusive experience that is developmentally and culturally appropriate for the participants.
• Work in conjunction with other program staff, contractors, and community partners to support participants to provide a positive program experience.
• Ensures the school and other program areas used are safe and clean before, during, and after use.
• Lead internal meetings for staff within the site and effectively communicate updates/changes/revisions from leadership meetings to the site staff.
• Attends internal meetings as identified by the Recreation Supervisor(s).
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor(s).

Requirements:

• American Red Cross CPR/AED/First aid certification preferred.
• Must possess a valid Class C driver's license in good standing.
• Must be able to provide excellent customer service to parents and children.
• Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with all staff at the before/after school site and the leadership team of the department.
• Must be able to work independently and exercise good judgment when making decisions
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and create regular newsletters/calendar for the site.

Salary & Benefits:

Starting pay range CEBA (Grade 9) – Starting at $21.15/hour.
