City of Portland - Community Health Promotions Specialist - Harm Reduction Part Time

The City of Portland's HHS Department is currently seeking a qualified individual for a part-time (up to 30 hours per week) project position working as a Community Health Promotion Specialist in the Harm Reduction Services Program for the City of Portland's Public Health Division. This position is funded by a state grant and is designed to provide HIV/HCV testing, outreach, and supportive connections to individuals impacted by opioid and/or stimulant use disorder.

Other Responsibilities Include:

• Providing overdose prevention, recognition, and response training.
• Distributing naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and wound care kits to people who use drugs.
• Partner organizations in communities throughout greater Portland.
• This person will work collaboratively within the Harm Reduction Services Program to disseminate information and supplies.
• This full time position (30 hours per week) is grant funded and is primarily in person due to the extensive outreach nature of the work. The hire will need to have a reliable vehicle and be willing to drive to communities throughout the greater Portland area.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Position requires a bachelor’s degree in a public health-related field or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
• The desired candidate will have experience working in the fields of HIV/HCV prevention, harm reduction, overdose prevention, substance use prevention and/or treatment.
• Knowledge and skills in the methods of health education/promotion, social marketing for public health.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of community representatives.
• Must possess valid State of Maine Driver's license and maintain a good driving record.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, ProTech (Grade 6) - Starting at $26.27/hr.
