City of Portland - Community Services Coordinator - Police Department
The Police Department is seeking a proactive and community-focused individual to fill the role of Community Services Coordinator. This non-sworn position is crucial in enhancing the department’s engagement with the community, fostering positive relationships, and addressing community concerns. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community outreach, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to enhancing public safety and engagement.
This position plays a key role in the area of community policing, serves as a liaison to Portland citizens, and represents the Police Department in police/community affairs. The Community Policing Coordinator will work closely with patrol officers assigned to a geographic area within the city on crime trends and patterns as well as emerging neighborhood issues including property owner concerns, child welfare, and neighborhood quality of life concerns.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement, and manage community policing programs and initiatives to strengthen ties between the police department and residents.
• Facilitate community meetings, public forums, and events to address issues, gather feedback, and promote understanding of police activities and policies.
• Serve as a liaison between the police department and community organizations, schools, businesses, and residents, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
• Address community concerns and complaints, providing resolutions and follow-up as needed.
• Collaborate with other departments, local agencies, and stakeholders to address public safety issues and enhance community relations.
• Prepare reports, analyze data, and maintain records related to community engagement and program effectiveness.
• Develop and distribute informational materials to educate the public about crime prevention, safety programs, and departmental services.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent education and work experience.
• Knowledge of the City of Portland, its neighborhoods, social services, and demographics.
• Knowledge of private and public resources available to assist neighborhood residents.
• Flexibility of work hours will be required as liaison work may be needed at varying times.
• Exceptional written, oral and platform presentation skills.
• Proven ability to work with socially diverse populations.
• Strong conflict resolution and team-building skills.
• Must pass Police background check.

Salary & Benefits:
Pro-Tech Union position - Grade 6 - Annual salary range starting at $51,226.76, plus a generous benefits package.
