Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department - (1) Full-time Position – 40 hours/week.
This position performs skilled work in the operation of maintenance of boilers, ventilation equipment and systems, air-conditioning equipment, and preventive maintenance programs for HVAC.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Must have a good understanding of DDC controls, Pneumatic controls, Energy Management Systems, and other modern technical controls.
• Responsible for the maintenance and repair of heating and air-conditioning systems, to include but not limited to, testing of controls, chemical treatments, etc.
• Maintains boilers, pumps, pneumatic and electrical controls and related materials.
• Performs preventative maintenance through testing and daily observation of equipment. Keeps maintenance records of all equipment and keeps a daily log of operations and maintenance.
• Keeps boiler rooms and mechanical rooms clean and free of obstruction.
• Maintains comfort level in various seasons, responds to maintenance concerns in the building; Problems are corrected by the employee or reported to supervisor for proper direction.
• Performs maintenance and trouble shooting on HVAC equipment in all City and School buildings as assigned.
• Coordinates work with outside contractors when necessary.
• Ensures safe operation of equipment and safe working conditions within the buildings.
Requirements of Work:
• Skilled in using specialized tools, gauges, methods and practices in the maintenance of Heating, Ventilation, and Air-conditioning equipment;
• Knowledge and implementation of all safety controls and procedures related to mechanical equipment;
• Knowledge of boiler water chemical testing and treatment;
• Knowledge of plumbing and electrical distribution related to the HVAC operation.
• Knowledge of principles of combustion, mechanics and hydraulics.
• Must have knowledge and ability to evacuate refrigerant, ability to learn pneumatic and DDC controls and systems and a working knowledge of appropriate tools, gauges and meters as it relates to the plumbing, heating and HVAC industry.
• Must have the ability to read blueprints and schematics and the ability to interpret and understand technical manuals; ability to lift 50 lbs. and ability to climb ladders and work at heights ranging from 20-50’.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Successful candidates must possess a valid State of Maine Class C driver's license and have a good driving record; must undergo pre-employment fitness assessment; must pass Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) background check, Department of Education background check.
To qualify as an HVAC Technician I you must possess a minimum of one of the following four criteria:
• Journeyman or Journeyman in training
• HVACR Certification
• EPA Certification
• Limited Electrical License
• Must have 1–3 years of related experience in the plumbing, heating and HVAC field
To qualify as an HVAC Technician II you must meet the requirements of an HVAC I and possess a minimum of one of the following three criteria:
• Master Oil Burner Licenses 1-2 License
• Natural Gas & Propane License;
• Master Plumber License
• Must have 3-5 years of responsible experience with DDC troubleshooting and installation knowledge

Salary & Benefits:
Starting salary pay range - Labor & Trades Union:
• HVAC I - Grade 55 - $27.36/hr; $1,094.40/wkly up to $31.70/hr; $1,268/wkly
• HVAC II - Grade 58 - $29.02/hr; $1,160.80/wkly up to $33.64/hr; $1,345.60/wkly
• Starting pay range will be based on years of relevant work experience.
• Applicants who possess all three of the requirements in the HVAC II will receive a 3% stipend in addition to their weekly pay.
