City of Portland - Maintenance Worker I Cemeteries



Parks, Recreation & Facilities
Schedule: 40 hours/week (Monday – Friday; 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.).

This position performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work within the Cemeteries Section of the Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department and includes mowing, maintenance work, interments and disinterment, which involves hand digging and setting of covers and vaults. This position will also assist with winter operations related to the Cemeteries Division.

Requirements:
 

  • Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of mowing and construction equipment.
  • Ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to make minor repairs.
  • Ability and willingness to work mandatory overtime during the winter period to include sanding and salting and plowing of snow.
  • Good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public.
  • Must possess valid Class B driver's license (or ability to obtain within 6 months) and must have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must pass a pre-employment fitness assessment.

    Salary & Benefits:

    This is a union position, Labor & Trades (Grade 16) - Starting salary of $862 - $966.40/week.
