City of Portland - Maintenance Worker III - Streets

MAINTENANCE WORKER III - Department of Public Works

Up to $2,500 Sign On Bonus Available

Streets & Sidewalks is seeking a motivated individual to perform a variety of skilled maintenance work on City streets and sidewalks and during winter operations. The schedule for this position is Monday thru Friday, 6:30am to 2:30pm. 10 hour shifts are offered after the winter season.

Requirements:

• Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of light and heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely.
• Ability to make minor repairs.
• Good visual acuity for driving and physical strength.
• Must posses the agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public.
• Must have good customer service skills.
• Must be able to work outside in all elements of weather.
• Must be willing to work mandatory overtime during winter period.
• Possess valid Maine Class A or B driver’s license.
• Must undergo a pre-employment medical exam and lift assessment and pass federally mandated drug test if applicant holds Class A or B license.
• Must have and maintain a good driving record.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, Labor & Trades (Grade 18CDL) - $25.75 to $28.51/hr. Starting pay will be based on qualifications and years of experience. Extra $1.00 stipend will be paid for a Class A license.
