TRACTOR TRAILER DRIVER – TRANSFER STATION
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

The City of Sanford is seeking a dedicated Tractor Trailer Driver to help manage and transport municipal solid waste, recycling, and other materials, ensuring a cleaner and greener environment for everyone. This position offers a variety of work while playing a vital role in ensuring efficient waste and recycling operations. You will be in charge of operating a tractor-trailer rig in relation to hauling and dumping at refuse transfer stations and other waste disposal facilities and/or sites. Beyond hauling, you’ll operate a range of equipment, from light tools to heavy machinery, contributing to the smooth operation of our transfer station. You will also take part in snow and ice removal operations with our Public Works Department, making a visible difference in your neighbor’s lives.
We are looking for someone who is also knowledgeable regarding State and Federal laws concerning disposal of hazardous waste and white goods as well as other environmental concerns. Please refer to position job description for additional position requirements.
Emergency response is required and you must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed, particularly during storms or emergencies. Applicants must have (or obtain) and maintain a valid State of Maine Class I/A CDL operator’s license. A non-fault accident-free record for the past 18 months, with no moving citations in the past 12 months is required.
All applicants for positions requiring a CDL are required to pass a drug test as a prerequisite of employment, prior to final hiring and must also successfully pass a background check to the satisfaction of the City.
