The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week (four-day workweek) full-time Administrative Assistant - Permit Technician to join our Planning and Development Department. Position Summary: The Administrative Assistant - Permit Technician is responsible for organizing and coordinating the Planning and Development Department’s office operations and procedures by performing a variety of routine, procedural, administrative, and managerial work. Performs front-line customer service and is the primary point of contact for accepting and processing permit applications for a variety of construction and development activities. Provides administrative support primarily to the Code Enforcement Division, but also to other department staff, including Economic Development and Planning, and assists with developing the standard operating policies and procedures for the office.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Graduation from a two-year community college or technical school or equivalent, supplemented by specialized course work in general office practice, is highly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience required, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary Range: $23.55 – $26.83/hour ($45,922-$52,318 annually) depending on experience. This position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
