The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week full-time Payroll & Finance Specialist to join our Finance Department. This is an opportunity to join a well-run city and play a part in serving our community with further opportunities for professional growth. 

Position Summary: The Payroll and Finance Specialist is responsible for the efficient and timely delivery of weekly payroll and related finance operations. General tasks include verifying payroll inputs, processing weekly payroll and related vendor payments, and issuing weekly payroll reports. This work involves regular communication and coordination with departments, employees, and vendors, and the ability to manage the workload independently to complete work in a timely manner; maintain a high level of sensitivity and confidentiality with regard to employee and citizen information and issues. This position also is cross-trained in processing accounts payable (AP) and will be able to run AP in the absence of the AP Specialist. 

Education: Associates Degree in accounting, business or related field preferred. Experience: Three (3) years of payroll experience.

Salary Range: $27.22 – $31.03/hour ($53,079-$60,508 annually) depending on experience. This position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
