The City of South Portland is seeking a Full-time (40 hours/week) Public Works Operations Manager to join an innovative, proactive and dynamic workforce with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in municipal service within the Public Works Department. 

This is a non-union position that supervises Public Works Department employees and oversees the implementation of streets and sidewalks maintenance and operations and other tasks as assigned. On occasion longer hours/additional work days may be necessary, so flexibility is important with the person in this role. 

Position Description: This is a supervisory position directing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Public Works Department operations and equipment, as well as performing management of staff duties and assignments, and some budget monitoring responsibilities.

Work under the supervision and direction of Deputy Director of Public Works. In consultation with the Deputy Director of Public Works, trains, directs, and supervises the day to day work of both full time and seasonal Public Works staff. Responsible for interviewing candidates and recommending selected candidates for hire. Involved in corrective action in conjunction with the Deputy Director.

Education and Experience: Graduation from a two-year college or university in the fields of engineering, business management, or industrial technology or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling seven (5) years in the absence of a degree.

Five (5) years of related experience with increasing responsibilities. Previous work experience within a municipality preferred.

Must have flexibility to be on call, work long hours during weather or other emergencies, and possibly evenings, weekends and holidays.

Starting Salary Range: $34.07 - $41.48/hour ($70,865 - $86,278 annually) depending on experience. This is a salaried position and is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
