The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week, full-time Recreational Programmer to join our Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department. This is an opportunity to join a well-run city and play a part in serving our community with further opportunities for professional growth.
Position Summary: The Recreation Programmer coordinates and supervises recreation programs, focusing on the Teen Center, Middle School Recreation Club, and Summer Camp programs. This role also includes the supervision and instruction of various recreational activities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable experience for all participants. During the school year, the Recreation Programmer focuses on programming for teens and middle schoolers and other seasonal activities, while in the summer, responsibilities shift to the summer camp program.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, Social Work, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: At least two (2) years of work experience in youth or recreational program coordination is required. Experience supervising staff is preferred.
Certifications: Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications within three (3) months of hire.
Other: Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours is required. Hours for this position vary depending on the season. From September to Early June hours for this position are: Monday - Thursday 1pm-9pm, and Friday 10am-6pm.

Salary Range: $20.37 – $23.23/hour ($39,721-$45,298 annually) depending on experience. This position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
