The Town of Berwick is accepting applications for the position of Code Enforcement Officer. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a 37.5 hour work week.
The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for inspection work related to the provision of code enforcement and inspection services in the Town, including building, zoning, plumbing, codes, and the enforcement and interpretation of the local zoning ordinances, and other applicable regulations. The Code Enforcement Officer serves as the Zoning and E-911 Officer for the Town. This position also supports the Planning Board during plan review as directed by the Director.
Pay Range: $33.60-$38.45 per hour
The successful candidate will:
- Have the ability to interpret and enforce code requirements and related regulations accurately, firmly, tactfully, and impartially
- Be knowledgeable of the state building code, federal, state, and local zoning ordinance provisions, plumbing, and sanitary codes, and other applicable state statutes, rules and regulations
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing with members of the public, town staff and building community
- Have the ability to work under pressure of schedules and deadlines, and during difficult and/or stressful situations with accuracy
Experience and Education/Training:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Three to five (3-5) years prior work experience preferably in the construction trades; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
- Valid Class C Operator’s License
- State Certified Code Enforcement Officer within one (1) year of appointment
