Overview & Schedule: The Corrections Officers supervise inmates within an assigned area and maintain order and security, through fair and impartial application of policies and procedures and accepted correctional security and supervision practices. Duties include making periodic activity and physical security checks of all inmate housing areas; controlling inmate movements within an assigned area; booking, fingerprinting, and processing new inmates; supervising dispensing meals and medication; and supervising recreational activities.

Employees work 7, 12 hour shifts in a 14 day pay period, shifts are either 6AM - 6PM or 6PM to 6AM and are 3 on-4 off-4 on-3 off. Applicants must be open and available to any and all shifts, including overtime. Additional hours may be needed from time to time to cover for vacations and other co-worker absences.

Qualifications: Applicants must be high school graduates or have equivalent education; be licensed to operate a motor vehicle; have no criminal record; be willing to submit to oral, psychological and polygraph examinations; and be willing to complete the Basic Corrections Training Program. Certification and experience is preferred, but we are willing to train all qualified candidates.

Interested people who have either been convicted of or engaged in certain minor criminal acts may still be eligible for employment, based on Maine Criminal Justice Academy standards, and are encouraged to apply.

Compensation: The starting hourly pay range is $26.52 - $34.54, depending on closely-related experience. The County provides an excellent benefits package to full-time employees including health insurance fully paid for the employee and 75% paid for dependents, and paid vacation and sick leave. Retirement plan options include Maine State Retirement 401, 457, and ROTH, and other voluntary benefits.
