JOB SUMMARY: The Town of Clifton is seeking a reliable Deputy Town Clerk to support and assist the Town Clerk in the varied and essential functions of the Clerk's office. This role involves the issuance of licenses, registrations and permits, collecting associated fees, accurately recording documents and vital statistics, assisting with voter registration and elections, and monthly reporting to State agencies and assisting in the daily operations that are necessary according to the Administrative Assistant.
DUTIES TO BE PERFORMED:
Validates Official documents, oversees posting of official notices and advertisements, records papers with federal and state government as received.
Issues various licenses such as hunting, fishing and dog licenses, and maintains all related records and send the monthly reports to Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as well as any other state agencies that require information.
Issues various motor vehicle registrations, maintain all related records and send monthly reports to the Department of Motor Vehicle. Collection of excise tax on new and used
automobiles, trucks, trailers, motorcycles and boats, keeping and processing records of the
same.
Process records of births, deaths, marriages, and burials accordingly.
Act of the Registrar of Voters. Administers all elections including scheduling and appointing ballot clerks, orders and prepares ballots, issues absentee ballots, processes and records ballots and reports election results and accepts voter registrations.

REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of modern office equipment. Including computers, photocopiers and typing. Ability to deal with intense and sometimes stressful conversations; which includes waiting on the residents at the counter, taking payments, and assisting residents with their questions and concerns.
Organize skills is a MUST; able to set priorities based on daily activities.
Ability to answer phones and forward questions to appropriate people
Ability to sort mail and post payments accordingly to correct accounts
Willingness to become or show proof of being a Notary
When necessary, serve as acting Administrative Assistant during when Administrative Assistant is absent.
When coverage is needed there is a possibility that you would be working extra hours at very busy times (elections, mass mailings, etc.). This is at the discretion of the Administrative Assistant and/or the Selectboard
Work is performed under the supervision of the Administrative Assistant and Selectboard Attend meetings and take minutes; Selectboard, and Town Meetings. Prepare agendas, and keep minutes and prepare the warrants for meetings
