The Town of Lisbon is actively seeking a dedicated and qualified individual for the position of Part-time Downtown
Director/Community Development Specialist. The total 28-hour-a-week role reports to the Economic and Community
Development Director and to the Discover Lisbon Board of Directors.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will serve as a split position that will include time in both of the positions indicated below.
Downtown Director
The Lisbon Downtown Director is tasked with executing the goals and objectives of the Discover Lisbon Board of
Directors. Discover Lisbon (formerly Positive Change Lisbon) is a nonprofit community organization who, as part of the
National Main Street Network, works towards the betterment of Lisbon’s businesses and residents by using a 40+ year
historic preservation-based approach to economic development. Through the use and improvement of Lisbon’s assets -
a walkable community, historic buildings, the river, and the people - this group accomplishes its goal while hosting
community events, influencing business growth, and creating a vibrant community in which to live, work and play.
This part-time hourly position has a flexible schedule. Participation in evening and weekend meetings and events is
expected. Currently, this position has 16 hours per week devoted to Discover Lisbon operations and events.
Community Development Specialist
The Lisbon Community Development Specialist position supports the Economic and Community Development Director
with projects that enhance the Lisbon community and advance the goals of the ECD office.
This part-time hourly position has a flexible schedule. Participation in evening and weekend meetings and events is
expected. Currently, this position has 12 hours per week devoted to ECD operations and events.
Required Proficiencies:
These positions require a person who is very comfortable being the face of Discover Lisbon and representing
the ECD office on behalf of the Director. The following traits will serve this person well in this position:
- Outgoing personality with the ability to “cold call” businesses in person to share the vision of the organization and seek support
- Solid understanding of financial budgeting processes
- Self-motivated / self-starter, able to work independently
- Familiar with marketing tools and social media platforms
- Strong attention to detail and event management experience
- Understanding of community development / municipal government operations
- Familiarity of and passion for the Lisbon Community
- Experience with small business operations and management
Skills, Training and Experience Required:
The successful candidate should have at least two years of post-high school education or training.
Experience in nonprofit management, fundraising and volunteer management a plus.

Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements:
The candidate must have a valid Class C Maine driver’s license.
