ENGINEERING ARCHIVIST
Public Works Department – Up to a $2,000 Sign on Bonus available to an external candidate
The Department of Public Works is seeking a talented team member to perform skilled and advanced technical work in which daily contact with other City staff and the public occurs. An employee in this classification performs digital and paper format archiving, records keeping, and survey/engineering research assignments of a difficult and legal nature, mostly in an office environment.
Requirements:
• Associate Degree or Technical Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Surveying, or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or any other equivalent combination of certification, experience, education and training.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interpret and carry out oral and written instructions and to prepare accurate and detailed reports.
• Ability to understand, interpret, organize, catalog and maintain engineering and land records and databases (paper and digital data).
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, and the general public, and to deal with public relations issues in a courteous and tactful manner.
• Ability to research and understand deed descriptions, surveying/engineering reports, plans, maps, and other official records.
• Ability to utilize software, including but not limited to: AutoCAD/GIS, database/spreadsheet and imaging software, operate large format and small format scanners, plotters and other miscellaneous computer peripherals.
• Ability to train and supervise support staff.
• Ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic and terrain conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and to climb stairs and ladders.
• Must possess a valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license and have and maintain a clean driving record.
Training and Experience Desired:
• Prior experience as an Archivist or Vital Records Clerk.
• Prior experience in municipal records keeping.
• Prior experience working in a civil engineering office.
• Prior experience as a GIS or mapping professional.
• Prior experience or educational training in a library science or Archival studies.
• Professional licensure or certification in the State of Maine (PE, PLS, EIT, LSIT, or GISP).

Salary & Benefits:
This is a union position, CEBA (Grade 17) – Starting salary range: $27.09/hr. to $29.71/hr.
