The Town of York, a coastal community comprised of the villages of Cape Neddick, York Harbor, York Village and York Beach, is accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator with the York Public Works Department.
Under direction, performs a variety of maintenance and construction tasks such as road maintenance and construction, snow plowing, grounds keeping, operation of other specialty construction equipment and general labor responsibilities.
Moderate physical effort required involving long periods of standing/walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, occasional lifting of moderately heavy objects up to 80 lbs. Must be able to operate telephone, computer, and basic construction monitoring tools. Vision and hearing adequate to perform the essential function of the job are required. Capability to operate maintenance and snowplowing equipment. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in various types of weather conditions and temperatures. Capable of working a long duration of hours.
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of three years of experience in the field of construction or work relating to public works, and snow plowing. Must possess a valid State of Maine commercial driver’s license with a clean driving record, with a minimum of a Class B.
This is a temporary to full-time position. Position is slated to start as soon as possible but full-time status will be determined by the budget process in May 2025. This is a non-exempt, union position which may require nights, weekends and holidays. The starting salary range is $28.45-$32.35 dependent upon experience and qualifications. The Town of York follows a salary step schedule which provides an estimated 5% increase plus COLA every year for the first 3 years of employment and then every third year subsequent to that.
