The Town of Kennebunk Fire Rescue Department (KFR) is accepting applications for full-time Firefighter/EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics to establish a hiring eligibility list. Successful candidates will be ranked and this list will be utilized when positions become available for 1-year from the date the list is created. Inclusion on the eligibility list shall not be a guarantee of future employment with the Town.
These full-time positions are skilled firefighting and emergency medical positions, and must be familiar with roads, landmarks, buildings, fire hydrants, and departmental operations. The department responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually, including calls for fire suppression, medical, and traumatic emergencies. Due to the geography of the community, the department must be prepared for emergencies on/in the ocean, highways, residential neighborhoods, industrial areas, railways, agricultural settings, and senior residential facilities in a community of 44 square miles with a year round population of 12,000 that increases significantly in summer months.
KFR is a combination department with increasing full-time staffing, and serves the community with four stations, including Central Station, Washington Hose Company, West Kennebunk and Blueberry Plains. Pay & Benefits
Full-time Firefighter/EMTs, AEMTs and Paramedics are non-exempt, union positions. KFR offers full-time qualified candidates lateral starting pay up to 10 years prior service and lateral vacation. The base pay range is $24.42/hour (Level 1) – $25.39/hour (Level 11). Employees are also eligible for:
- Longevity Service Pay (2% - 8% per hour based on years of service)
- EMS Certification Hourly Stipend ($1.06/hour for EMT, $2.23/hour for AEMT, or $4.45/hour for Paramedic)
- Education Incentive Pay (1% – 4% per hour based on diploma/certification/degree held)

Upon hire, employees receive 2 personal days and 1 floating holiday to use anytime within the contract year, when and how they choose. Additionally, employees earn 1 sick day per month and accrue weekly vacation.
Hours & Schedule
These positions work a forty-two (42) hour/week schedule. The schedule consists of a 24-hour shift, followed by 2 days off, a 24-hour shift, followed by 4 days off.
Position Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Valid Motor vehicle operator’s license with no serious infractions;
- Maine EMT License required, with preference given to those with Advanced EMT or Paramedic license;
- Firefighter II Certification or be able to complete the certification within a reasonable time determined by the Chief;
- National Incident Management IS 100, 200, and 700; and
- AVOC/EVOC or equivalent.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

Upon review of applications, selected candidates will be invited to participate in the eligibility list hiring process. This process will consist of a physical agility test (PAT), assessment panel and interview panel.
