Status: Full-Time 40+ hours/week
Grade: 3/4 (starting at $20.38 - $21.43/hour) Depending on license.
SUMMARY: The Highway Worker performs a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks, operates trucks and other related equipment as needed for necessary roadway repairs and projects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent GED, plus three (3) years experience in heavy construction. Must have a valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license. Must obtain Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within first six (6) months of employment. Background in winter operations, including plowing, sanding, equipment upkeep/maintenance, open space maintenance, turf and game lining and set-up, pool and water element maintenance and related operations is ideal.
WORK ACTIVITIES: Perform a variety of street, drainage, parking lot and sidewalk maintenance and construction projects. Mark and paint crosswalks, stop lines, and other traffic control markings. Set up routine and emergency traffic control signage displaying working knowledge of Dig-Safe laws, MDOT and MUTCD requirements and other safety regulations. Must be able to complete accurate records of time and materials used. May perform construction and paving inspections. May, at times, act as a crew leader for various street and sidewalk maintenance operations. Participates in lawn repair, loam work, and winter operations such as snowplowing and snow removal. May perform carpentry and/or masonry work. Will take part in ongoing training regarding equipment skills and other operations. Participates in City-wide event set up and tear down. Installs and removes holiday lighting/decorations. Interacts with the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Must be available for emergency operations and overtime, as required. Able to follow oral and written instruction, and perform other duties as assigned.
