MMA Legal Services has recently issued two new supplements to the 2016 revised edition of its Guide to Municipal Liens.  On March 14, 2024, Supplement No. 4 was issued to update the Manual's discussion of bankruptcy law and its impact on the municipal lien process (contained in chapter 6 of the Manual) and also updated forms in related appendices.

In addition, the Manual was updated in October, 2023 with Supplement No. 3, which revised chapter 3 of the Manual and related appendices dealing with the sale of tax-acquired property. These updates were necessary to address the May 2023, U.S. Supreme Court decision in Tyler v. Hennepin County, Minnesota, 598 U.S. 631, and Maine legislation enacted soon thereafter which significantly revised statutory requirements for sale of tax-acquired property.

The changes issued in both Supplements have been incorporated into the online version of the Manual, and may be accessed or downloaded by members at no charge. For membes with printed versions of the manual we encourage you to print the updated chapters 3 and 6 to replace existing printed chapters, or to print Supplements Nos. 3 and 4 for use with the manual.

If you have any questions about these materials, please contact MMA Legal Services at 1-800-452-8786 or legal@memun.org.
