The City of South Portland is seeking a Part Time Building Maintenance Custodian (for up to 19 regularly scheduled hours per week) to work throughout the City’s facilities.
Position Summary: Perform a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the custodian care and maintenance of the municipal offices, buildings and facilities, including community centers, recreational facilities, Libraries and Public Safety buildings.
Work under the close supervision of the Facilities Manager and Facility liaison of assigned building(s)/facilities. May serve as lead worker, supervising the work of a small crew of Building Custodians; may assign work, instruct crew on specific requirements of job and procedures to be followed, and review work in progress and on completion for conformance with instructions and established procedures, yet does not directly supervise any direct reports.
Daily activities may vary slightly depending on the building. The individual typically will be responsible for a full range of custodial and light maintenance duties, both indoors and outdoors, including, but not limited to: emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, vacuuming, cleaning floors, washing windows, light painting, shoveling & light snow removal, routine and preventative maintenance and moving furniture as needed.
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
Experience: One (1) year of related work experience preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid Maine Class C motor vehicle driver’s license throughout employment for possible workday transportation between city buildings.
Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule that will include night and weekend hours, and will often fluctuate each week schedule.
Starting hourly pay range: $20.37 - $23.23 based on qualifications and experience. The position is eligible for annual step increases and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
Benefits: This part-time position is eligible for only the Earned Paid Leave benefit.
