The Town of Berwick has an opening for one (1) full-time police officer and four (4) reserve police officers. The fulltime police officer position will start on January 1, 2025.

The Berwick Police Department is comprised of a staff of 13 fulltime police officers, 4 reserve police officers, 1 animal control officer and 1 unsworn civilian. The Department serves a community of 7,246 residents and is in York County along the border of the State of New Hampshire. The Berwick Police Department is a great place for anyone interested in career progression.

Minimum Qualifications: High school graduate, valid driver’s license, and a good driving record. If requested, the candidate must have the ability to pass an in-depth background check, credit check, psychological and polygraph exams, physical agility test, medical examination, oral board, and written examination. Education consisting of an associate degree or higher or active military service is preferred however, it is not mandatory.

Candidates without current law enforcement officer certification(s) are also encouraged to apply.

Full- time benefit package includes:

• 4 Day work week

• 20-year Maine State Retirement System with COLA (no age)

• Sick time earned at 10 hours per month.

• Vacation/Holiday time ranges from: 10.83 hours per month (130 per year) 26.43 hours per month (317 per year)

• Educational incentives: Associate degree 3% added to base pay. Bachelor’s Degree 5% added to base pay. 2-year active military service 3% added to base pay

• Wage Scale: Starting from $28.58 per hour ($59,450 annually) Ending at $37.52 per hour ($78,000 annually)

• Shift differentials: $1.00 per hour for second shift. $1.25 per hour for third shift.

• School Resource Officer Position receives additional $.50 per hour.

• Detective Specialist Pay receives additional $1.00 per hour.

• Longevity pay range: After 5 years earns an additional .22 per hour. up to 20 years earning an additional .96 per hour.

Lateral Entry - for training and experience

Reserve police officers are paid per-diem with pay rates between $28.58 and $34.85 depending on certification level, training, and experience.
