SYSTEM SUPPORT SPECIALIST I

 

Classification: Full Time, Exempt

Description: Entry-level Information Technology work focused on assisting with system maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting IT infrastructure. This role emphasizes hands-on technical support, basic system analysis, and implementation of predefined system updates. Work is performed under supervision with guidance available for complex tasks. 

Starting Salary: $60,000.00

Representative Tasks:

  • Assist with web security and internet-based system maintenance.
  • Perform routine updates and maintenance for servers, workstations, and network infrastructure.
  • Provide first-level troubleshooting for networking issues, including hardware and software.
  • Assist in maintaining network hardware, including routers, switches, and access points.
  • Support the installation, configuration, and management of basic networking equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Assist in deploying and managing mobile network solutions like Mobile Device Terminals (MDTs).
  • Document system changes, updates, and configurations for networked systems.
  • Maintain an inventory of IT equipment, ensuring proper asset tagging and documentation.
  • Participate in VEEAM backup operations to ensure backup systems are functional and meet recovery objectives.
  • Support VMware environment monitoring and basic maintenance.
  • Provide support for Microsoft Exchange operations, including mailbox configurations and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist in Citrix environment monitoring and perform routine maintenance tasks.
  • Support the implementation and troubleshooting of two-factor authentication for secure system access.
  • Assist in creating and updating documentation for IT processes and systems.
  • Participate in team projects and follow established system designs and configurations.
  • Ensure network systems are operational through routine checks and basic troubleshooting.
  • Engage in professional development activities to enhance IT skills and stay current with emerging technologies.
  • Provide first-level application support for commonly used software systems.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting and support for the Public Safety applications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Basic knowledge of system analysis, networking fundamentals, and design techniques.
  • Familiarity with basic configuration and troubleshooting of switches and routers.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Windows Server, VMware, Fortigate firewalls, and Microsoft Office.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Exchange and Citrix environments.
  • Basic understanding of two-factor authentication systems.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management practices for IT equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of network security principles and remote computing technologies.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work within team-oriented environments.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic proficiency in network engineering or server management, with experience supporting network infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange mailbox configurations and Citrix environment basics.
  • Experience with VMware, Fortigate firewalls, and VEEAM backup systems.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within the role.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Business Casual environment, ability to lift 50 pounds, some travel may be required.  Rotating on-call shift coverage for 24/7 work environments. Willingness to work in a corrections & law enforcement environment. Must pass background check and drug screening.
