The Town of Freeport is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week full-time Finance Counter Clerk to join our Finance Department. This is an opportunity to join a supportive team and play a part in serving our community.
The Counter Clerk provides essential support in the Finance/Tax Department by managing municipal revenue processes, assisting customers with transactions and inquiries, and ensuring compliance with state and local regulations. This position works under the general supervision of the Town’s Motor Vehicle Agent and Finance Director but requires the ability to work independently daily following established procedures and routines. This role requires a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service. Work is reviewed through audits, observation, conferences, reports, and evaluation of results.
The ideal candidate will bring a technical skill set, be able to work both independently and within a team, and bring a customer-focused approach to their work. Knowledge of, or ability to learn rules and regulations related to BMV processes, and/or experience with BMV and IF&W processes and procedures, and cash handling are required. Direct customer service experience is preferred. Must complete Maine State BMV New Registration training and receive certification within six (6) months of hire. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of satisfactory criminal background and credit checks.
