The Town of Freeport, Maine (pop. 8,737) is seeking an innovative Town Planner to help drive implementation of policies that advance the community’s land use, housing creation, and economic development goals. Freeport is a desirable residential community, as well as one of Maine’s leading tourist destinations with millions of annual visits to its vibrant businesses including the world-famous retailer L.L. Bean. Known for its coastal and recreational amenities, Freeport is conveniently located 20 miles north of Portland, Maine’s largest city.
The Town Planner will a play a key role on an interdisciplinary municipal team by providing technical planning expertise to influence forward-looking policy in collaboration with Boards, elected officials, and diverse stakeholders. The Town Planner will help guide implementation of the Town’s development goals as articulated by the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, Downtown Vision Plan, and related initiatives. The ideal Town Planner candidate will bring an adaptive and versatile skill set, a creative and solutions-oriented approach, and a desire for professional growth in municipal land use planning and economic development.
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in planning. Graduation from an accredited college or university is required, with a Master’s degree in urban planning, community development or a related field strongly preferred. Candidates demonstrating an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the position. Salary range starts at $80,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.
