The Town of Pownal, Maine is seeking a creative, energetic individual with demonstrated organizational skills to serve as its next Town Administrator. This is a full-time position that requires a visionary leader who can support and mentor both experienced and newer staff and continue to build upon the existing foundation of providing quality community facilities and services, which is vital to maintaining the health, safety, and welfare of the community.

Southern Maine communities have been experiencing rapid growth as it moves north from Portland. Pownal is expecting this growth to continue into the region. The Town of Pownal, (approximate population 1600) is a desirable community located in Cumberland County with an area around 22 square miles that includes an extensive network of state parks (Bradbury Mountain) hiking trails, country road biking and dirt roads that create a rural atmosphere. Situated between Portland/Brunswick and Lewiston, Pownal’s thoughtful planning process has preserved the unique character of Pownal, creating a community-based approach to future development.

The Town has an operating budget of approximately 5.5 M. which includes schools. Pownal is part of an excellent school system, RSU 5, which includes Freeport and Durham. There are 5 full-time employees that work directly with the Town Administrator. The Town Administrator collaborates with a very thoughtful three-person Selectboard, managing budgets and policies.

The Town Administrator should have strong people skills working closely with staff and townsfolk. Experience with TRIO Software is desired as well as having experience with Microsoft Office and State of Maine municipal programs.
