NATURE OF WORK

This is semi-skilled work in the operation of various equipment at the municipal Transfer Station.

Employee of this class is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the Transfer Station. Work involves assisting citizens in the proper disposal of waste materials, operation of compactor, front-end loader, wood chipper, snowblower, and other equipment. Work is performed under the direction of the Public Works Director.

EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative Only)

Separates refuse into the proper areas for preparation for recycling.

Assists citizens, businesses, and town employees to properly dispose of waste materials.

Assists in the general cleaning and maintenance of the Transfer Station.

Cleaning as required.

Performs related work as required and directed by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

Ability to maintain and operate front-end Loader and other equipment at the Transfer Station.

Ability to make judgements as to the proper disposal of various refuse materials.

Ability to work without close supervision producing satisfactory output.

Ability to deal courteously with the public and others who utilize the Transfer Station.

Adhere to established policies and procedures.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school graduation and experience in the operation of moderately heavy motorized equipment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess valid vehicle operator's license.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Considerable experience, particularly on heavy equipment; graduation from an accredited high school; graduation from a vocational school or other specialized training in the mechanics trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
