WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER

 

Public Works Department

Up to a $2,000 Sign on Bonus available to an external candidate.

The Department of Public Works is seeking a talented team member to work within the Water Resources Division to perform highly skilled technical and professional level work in municipal engineering. Employees in this class perform complex assignments under a minimum of general supervision and exercise considerable independent judgment.

 

Requirements:

 

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with specialization in Civil Engineering or other engineering discipline as appropriate to position and possession of a Fundamentals of Engineering certificate in State of Maine, or ability to obtain in six months.

• Experience operating computers and utilizing contemporary engineering including the full Windows suite of programs, Autodesk Civil3D CAD and GIS mapping software effectively.

• Ability to express ideas and understand instructions effectively; orally and in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, contractors, consultants, regulatory agency representatives, and the general public, and to deal with public relations issues in a courteous and tactful manner.

• Ability to withstand exposure to varied climatic conditions and maneuver over uneven terrain.

• Fundamentals of engineering certification in State of Maine, or ability to obtain in six months.

• Must possess a valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license and have and maintain a clean driving record.

 

Training and Experience Desired:

• Environmental programs experience such as CSO abatement, Stormwater Management, and Capacity, Management, Operations & Maintenance Assessment.

• Working knowledge of excavation and work zone safety requirements.

• Working knowledge of general accounting practices.

• Software Tools including Windows 2010 or newer, Google Workspace, Arc GIS, Autodesk Civil 3D CAD, Hydro CAD, and City Works.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, Protech (Grade 8) – Starting salary range: $31.79/hr. to $40.26/hr., based on relevant years of experience.

 

Successful applicant could also receive a 3% differential upon presentation to the City of the State of Maine certification for Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or 6% differential upon proof of registration in the State of Maine as a Professional Engineer (PE).
