Water Systems Operator - Portland Water District

  Our Water System Operator will learn to perform a broad range of tasks to ensure proper operation and maintenance of Portland Water District’s water system that provides continued flow to over 200,000 customers.  The successful candidate must have the ability and desire to function in a team environment, positive communication problem solving skills, a willingness to learn, and be within one (1) hour of travel time from facility.  The position will develop the necessary skills of water distribution and transmission procedures, water plant operations, and water utility service.

If you currently have your CDL license, in good standing, PWD provides you a sign on bonus as follows:

Sign- on bonus of$3,000 for newly hired Water Systems Operators who already have their CDL license 

Sign-on Bonus of $2,000 for newly hired Water Systems Operators who already have their CDL permit (acquired before 2/6/22)!

CDL sign-on bonus is paid monthly within the first five months of employment.

            This starting hourly rate of pay is $25.98 for the probationary period of six months.  Upon completion of the probationary period and acquisition of the CDL B license, the hourly rate of pay increases to $27.34.  This apprentice position also features a career ladder where operators are trained in all aspects of the water system including distribution maintenance, treatment, pumping, storage, metering, cross connection, construction inspection, and asset management.  Successful completion of the program and acquiring water distribution and treatment licenses, the hourly rate of pay increase to $30.76.  Prior experience in these areas can accelerate movement within the career ladder.
