DECD Schedules 2024 In Person Hours for LD 2003 Questions

SNAP – Lost Food Due to Power Outages

Mainers who receive SNAP benefits, and lost food due to power outages during the December 18 storm may be eligible for replacement of up to one month’s worth of SNAP benefits. To be eligible, residents must be without power for at least eight hours. Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will verify the duration of the power outage and determine eligibility. On November 21, 2023, the Department of Health and Human Services notified 67,000 households that they qualify for the Low-Income Assistance Program (LIAP), which is administered by the Public Utilities Commission. The program will provide up to $22.5 million in credits on the electric bills issued to qualifying customers who provide a copy of the LIAP letter to their utility companies.  Residents who do not receive a letter and need assistance are urged to complete the online form...

Important ARPA Reporting Deadlines

The U.S. Treasury is reporting that 4,300 ARPA recipients have not filed required reports.  Although the list of non-filers has not been released, it is possible that some municipalities in Maine have missed the deadline.  The concern among municipal officials is if reporting deadlines are not fulfilled, the federal government will seek to “claw back” the distributed revenue.  Even if a municipality has nothing to report, they must comply with the filing...
