2024 Changes to Tax-Acquired Property Sale Procedures

Last month the Maine Legislature enacted PL 2023, chapter 640, which again revised required sale procedures for real property that is tax-acquired under the real estate tax lien mortgage process (36 M.R.S. §§ 942 - 943). Legal Services' Guide to Municipal Liens Updated

Major U.S. Supreme Court Decision Impacting Municipalities

The U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision in Tyler v. Hennepin County, Minnesota, which is likely to have a major impact on municipal sales of tax-acquired real estate. The underlying facts revolve around Hennepin County, Minnesota’s foreclosure on Geraldine Tyler’s condominium for unpaid real estate taxes.
