Host site requests for summer 2025 interns are now open until March 1, 2025 for the Maine Government Summer Internship Program!
MMA and the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center will host a free informational meeting for potential municipal intern hosts via Zoom on Wednesday, January 22 at 12-1 pm. Please visit this link to register.
MMA will also again be offering four $4,300 grants to MMA member municipalities who host an intern through the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center Government Internship Program. These grants are intended to partially offset costs associated with the intern’s salary and the MCS Policy Center administrative fee, and to support training and professional development activities for the intern during the internship period. Please review the attached memo for more details.
The internship program is a collaborative process involving the Office of the Governor, the Maine Bureau of Human Resources, numerous Maine state government agencies, local governments and the state and municipal employees who serve as intern supervisors. The paid internship brings interns together with Maine state agencies and municipal and county governments gaining valuable professional experience and building professional networks. The twelve-week program begins on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 with a two-day onboarding workshop in Augusta and concludes August 15, 2025. The program is administered by the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine.
