The Milo Select Board is accepting proposals from any Certified Maine Assessor who may wish to be appointed the Assessors' Agent of the Town of Milo. The Assessors' Agent has the following duties:

To perform the field work and update the property assessment cards for all new construction, reconstruction and demolition that has occurred in the Town of Milo since April 1, 2018 and has not previously been assessed;

To review the existing Milo land and building schedules that are used for calculating property values and make recommendations to the Select Board;

To adjust annually all current property assessments in accordance with sales ratios appropriate to various property classes for the purpose of maintaining the municipality's assessment ratio at or near 100%;

To prepare for the Select Board’s review and approval all correspondence with the Bureau of Taxation, including but not limited to Municipal Valuation Returns, sales ratios and other required documentation.

To regularly and openly communicate with the Board of Assessors with regard to any information that the Board may need to make informed decisions about the municipality's assessing policies and practice;

To defend any municipal assessment before the local Board of Assessment Review, State Board of Property Tax Review, or any court of competent jurisdiction;

To appeal the municipality's state valuation when the Board of Assessors deem such an appeal to be warranted;

To maintain the town's property tax maps by plotting land splits and any standard and necessary function of an assessing agent that may be reasonably required.

Any proposal submitted pursuant to this request shall be in writing and clearly state the charges for performing the above-listed functions for the single tax year beginning April 1, 2019.

Bids are due back by December 27, 2018, at 3:00 and shall be opened and reviewed by the Select Board/Assessors at the regularly scheduled meeting of the Select Board on January 8, 2019, at 6:30 pm.
