Town of Hampden - F/T Police officer

FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER

 

The Town of Hampden is seeking applicants for an anticipated full-time police officer. Hampden Public Safety is a community-centered agency committed to providing professional and progressive public safety services.

 

Requirements and Qualifications:  Applicants must be certified as a full-time police officer by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or have successfully completed Phase I and Phase II of The Law Enforcement Pre-Service Training Program. Applicants must be able to successfully complete medical, psychological and polygraph examinations, pass an extensive background investigation and may need to meet the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Physical Fitness Standard.  

Benefits: The Hampden Police Department offers a competitive wage and benefits package and excellent retirement options.

Wages:  Effective 7-1-19, the rate of pay will be $21.44 up to $27.36.  A lateral entry at the Public Safety Director’s discretion is available based upon training and experience. 

Health Insurance:  Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust PPO 2500 with 90% Med-A-Vision Plan.  The Town pays 100% for the employee and 70% for a family plan.  

Retirement:  Maine State Retirement plan 3C, which includes 2/3 pay after 25 years of service with no age attainment, and COLA; or I.C.M.A. with a 10% (non-matching by the employee) contribution by the Town.  The Town will contribute an additional .5% with an employee contribution to the I.C.M.A 457 Plan.

Vacation: (Effective 7-1-19)

  • Hire to 5 years of service- 90 hours per year.
  • 5 to 10 years of service-138 hours per year.
  • 10 to 20 years of service-186 hours per year.
  • 20 or more years of service-234 hours per year.

 

Holidays:  12 paid holidays. 

Education Incentive:  The Town agrees to pay tuition costs for one course per semester up to a Baccalaureate Degree. 

Sick Leave Incentive:  The Town will make available retirement medical benefits offered under I.C.M.A.  The Town will contribute 8 hours per month upon the employee accumulating the maximum sick time hours of 960 hours.
