Town of Freeport - Recycling Internship - Deadline extended

Town of Freeport - Recycling Internship

The Town of Freeport seeks a motivated and qualified individual to work on a new public outreach campaign about proper recycling.

We seek to hire one part-time, seasonal intern to take part in this innovative program. The intern will have an opportunity to impact municipal recycling programs as well as receive training and professional development.

The intern will receive training by Ecomaine that will include an introduction to the recycling market, Ecomaine facilities, and recycling dos/don’ts. Ecomaine will also equip interns with community outreach and education tools and resources.

Over six to eight weeks this summer, the intern will spend the majority of their time in the community, delivering education and collecting data at Freeport’s recycling silver bullets, focusing on reducing recycling contamination. The intern will meet weekly with Freeport Transfer Station staff to debrief about their progress and challenges.

Overall this internship will advance the intern’s understanding of waste management and reduction, a key strategy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The intern will gain valuable experience in community-based outreach and education, data collection and management, and critical thinking and analysis. Finally, interns will take on a central role in shaping the development of a sustainable internship program out of the pilot phase.

Interns will be compensated for the training time. The intern will be expected to work 15-20 hours/week including weekends and one to two mornings a week starting at 7:30am, as well as one to two weekday evenings (until no later than 7:30pm). Compensation is $11/hour.
