FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER POSITION
The Town of Topsham is presently seeking a candidate to fill one full time police officer vacancy. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including overtime/detail opportunities, wage step increases, educational incentives, tuition reimbursement, annual clothing allowance, employee and family medical health / dental coverage, paid vacation and sick leave, twelve paid holidays, and excellent retirement options. Preference will be given to Maine Criminal Justice Academy graduates or equivalent certification. Lateral entry applicants are eligible for an increased pay step based on current qualifications. Preference will also be given to individuals that have completed up to Phase II of the law Enforcement Training Program. Eligible candidates must be at least 21 years of age, be a high school graduate or equivalent, and hold a valid driver’s license with no adverse driving record. A background check, polygraph, job assessment, fitness, medical evaluations and psychological testing will be conducted.

To be eligible for this process, applications must be submitted to the Topsham Police Department; applications will be accepted until the position has been filled. All applicants who are not currently certified by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA) to work as a full-time police officer in Maine, or who have not graduated from an equivalent training program making them eligible for certification as a police officer in Maine after waiver of basic training, must include documentation of successful completion of the MCJA ALERT test, as well as proof of successful completion of the MCJA Physical Fitness Test within six months preceding the test date. ALERT test score and Physical Fitness Test score must accompany completed application.
