The Town of Gorham Fire Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the full-time (40-hour) position of Mechanic. This is a shared position between Gorham and Windham Fire Departments, and is responsible for the maintenance of both departments’ apparatus. The Fire Mechanic provides fleet maintenance and repair services to ensure the safety and reliability of Fire Department-owned vehicles and equipment. This position is responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance and timely repair of equipment in accordance with established maintenance and safety procedures. Work is typically performed independently with minimal supervision. Some overtime and call-outs required.
Must possess a high school diploma, or equivalent, and have a minimum of two years’ prior work experience as a mechanic for automobiles and diesel trucks. Knowledge of Fire apparatus, pumps, and hydraulic systems is preferred. Maine Motor Vehicle Inspection license with class A, D, T and E endorsements required. Must hold or be able to obtain a Maine driver’s license CDL Class B and be insurable in a normal risk pool. Some experience in the operation of standard automotive equipment heavier than passenger vehicles preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
