Deputy Code Enforcement Officer Town of Bar Harbor

The Town of Bar Harbor is seeking qualified applicants for the Deputy Code Enforcement Officer position in the Code Department.  The Deputy CEO position is a 40-hour per week position with a competitive compensation and benefit package.  This position reports to the Code Enforcement Officer.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: reviewing permit applications for compliance with Bar Harbor’s Land Use Ordinance and adopted building codes; issuing permits; inspecting plumbing and electrical installations; conducting building, field, and site inspections; preparing and processing reports; providing word processing and data entry services; and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Code Enforcement Officer.

Ability to communicate well, both orally and written is essential.  Applicants with knowledge of construction and building codes, electrical and plumbing codes, and/or Code Enforcement experience are encouraged to apply.  Applicant must be certified, or become certified within one year from appointment, as a Local Plumbing Inspector and a Code Enforcement Officer.  Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and applicant is required to make site visits and work in the field.

Experience working in a fast-paced manner, coordinating with other departments and disciplines, and with a diversity of projects is essential.  The Deputy CEO must be able to communicate effectively, work independently, and exercise good judgment.
