These are temporary on-call appointments for the duration of the fiscal year. The Academy’s fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. Candidates will be responsible for working during the undergraduate live burns in the spring semesters and throughout the year for the Continuing Education Department, both under the supervision of the Lead Fire Instructor.
Advanced Fire Training evolutions are held at the Hancock County Fire Training Facility in Hancock, primarily on Saturdays and Sundays. Candidates must be available to work weekends.

Assistant Firefighting Instructors
Instructors will be responsible for teaching live fire evolution safety that meet NFPA 1403 standards and USCG approved shipboard techniques as provided by Maine Maritime Academy policy. Firefighting I certification is required. Two years of demonstrated service and experience in shipboard training are preferred.
Firefighting Safety Officers
The Safety Officer will enforce the Standard Operating Guidelines of Maine Maritime Academy’s Firefighting program. All SOG’s follow the safety standards of NFPA 1403. Safety Officer experience is required. Two years of demonstrated service, Firefighting I certification, and experience in shipboard training are preferred.
EMS Rehab Officers
The Rehab Officer will be responsible for ensuring that all personnel stay medically fit and meet all safety standards of NFPA 1403. Basic EMT, CPR, and First Aid (including AED) certification are required. Two years of demonstrated service is preferred.
