Town of Kennebunk - Economic Development Director (full-time)


The Town of Kennebunk is seeking a full-time Economic Development Director. The Economic Development Director is an administrative and professional position working in the field of economic development, grants, planning, and financing.  The employee in this position works closely with the Town’s leadership and staff, the Town’s Economic Development Committee, and community stakeholders to advance business and economic development interests within the community.


The Economic Development Director supports the retention of businesses in Town and provides guidance to individuals, businesses, and companies interested in establishing or relocating to the Town of Kennebunk.  The Economic Development Director promotes the Kennebunk Community as an excellent place to live, work, and play.

Position Requirements

The desired minimum job qualifications are: (A) A Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, finance, or related field is highly desirable with a Master’s Degree preferred, (B) Proven experience of a progressive nature in areas such as grant writing, finance, commercial lending, advertising, marketing, marketing research and collection, planning and real estate, or (C) A combination of education and work experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.


The desired knowledge, skills, and abilities include (1) demonstrated strong competencies in written and verbal communication, public speaking, and delivering effective presentations, (2) considerable knowledge of geographic, economic, and social characteristics of the southern Maine area and the Town of Kennebunk, (3) Strong knowledge of economic development principals, market research and data collection, financing, and management, and (4) the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with State and Federal agencies, Town leadership, business leaders, and community stakeholders.
