The City of Augusta Public Works Department is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the managerial position of Director of Solid Waste. This position will oversee the Hatch Hill Solid Waste and Recycling Facility, a modern, regional landfill and recycling facility that receives 40,000 tons of materials and has a $2.7 million dollar budget annually. This position will be responsible for general oversight of the operation (working with the Landfill Operations Supervisor and the Technical Supervisor), environmental compliance, evaluating operating systems, planning, along preparing and providing information. Standard workweek is Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm with the requirement to work one Saturday a month (either as a flexed work week or as a “comp earned” day) Position will spend most of the time at the facility. Attendance at some night meetings will be required.
Candidates must possess strong managerial skills, knowledge of environmental regulations and mechanical systems such as pumps and pipes along with earthwork construction, and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Qualified candidates need to have a 4 year college degree, technical or business related field is preferred. Landfill training such as SWANA certifications and 1 to 3 years previous experience in solid waste operations or oversight preferred. A valid Maine driver’s license is required.
This is a full-time, non-union exempt position with excellent benefits, paid time off and a pension plan. Pay Range NU 22 - $29.96 to $37.44 per hour
