Library Technician - Winthrop

The Bailey Public Library is in need of a part-time Library Technician to work in the Adult Services department of our busy lakeside library. The library is a dynamic community center located in the summer resort town of Winthrop, situated between two beautiful lakes in a downtown setting, halfway between the service centers of Augusta and Lewiston.

The Library Tech is responsible for providing excellent customer service to library members in an effective, efficient and professional manner.

•Warmly welcome customers into our library and ensure a great library experience to each and every customer.
•Perform circulation activities, including checking materials out and the registration of users.
•Respond to customer and staff inquiries in person, by email, or over the phone.
•Assist with shelving library material.
•Assist in refreshing displays and making sure materials are in their correct locations.
•Teach our customers how to operate the library’s online systems.
•Understand the needs of library customers and, if necessary, connect them to the right person at the right time by referring them to the appropriate staff member for help.
•Collaborate with fellow staff members in resolving questions or problems to enhance the customer experience.
•Constantly explore great conversations, talking to our library members about the programs and services available at the library.
•Use effective communication techniques to minimize confusion and promote understanding.
•Resolve problems, interpret policy and use good judgment in responding to customer’s needs.
•Help orchestrate the opening and closing of the library.

•You are a technology expert and enjoy teaching others about what technology the library has to offer, from basic computer skills to the creation of digital media.

•Bachelor's degree plus one year experience
•Technology literacy
•A passion for public libraries
•Commitment to customer service

•Able to work with or without reasonable accommodation in a shared work area, to stand and move around for four to six hours at a time. This position will keep you ‘on the move’ every day. You need to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, climb and push/pull. You will need the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
