Wastewater Operator-Mechanic Grade 3 - Rockland

 

The City of Rockland is hiring for a Waste Water Operator/Mechanic – Grade III or above preferred.  This is a responsible practical job in the operation of the City of Rockland, Wastewater Treatment Facility and Pump Stations; assists in the daily operation of the plant and machinery in a safe and efficient manner; monitors, cleans and maintains plant equipment; performs or assists in various testing procedures, and performs upkeep of the Treatment Plant’s physical plant and grounds, in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations and laws.

Employee must be able to perform and document various tests required by State and Federal agencies for the operation of a waste water treatment plant. Have working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a waste water treatment plant. Have working knowledge of the machinery used in daily wastewater treatment. Thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct routine equipment malfunctions; also, knowledge of basic machinery repair. Applicant must have working knowledge of State and Federal requirements as they relate to waste treatment. Ability to work independently, making routine decisions on the operation of plant machinery. Ability to safely operate a medium-sized vehicle.  Ability to operate a fork truck. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and complete various other physical labor. Must possess a valid Maine driver license. 

Desirable Experience and Training:  High school graduate or GED and

Adequate experience in a treatment plant; or an equivalent combination of

experience and training.


Necessary Special Requirements: A Maine Wastewater Treatment Operator’s III

Certification is preferred, but not required.  Must work to obtain a Grade V operator

certification within the time frame set by the Director per parameters specified by the

Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

 

Starting wage is $22.51, per hour; Grade III license.  This is a full time position with Union benefits.
