Grade: 4 ($18.87 - $27.86/hour)
SUMMARY: The District Team Manager for Open Spaces manages day-to-day operations of crew, equipment, budget and maintenance schedule. This position covers winter sidewalk maintenance, storm water sidewalk sweeping program, maintenance and upkeep of open spaces including parks, recreation complexes, cemeteries, fields, and vacant lots.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in parks management, horticulture, or related field; six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired candidates will have experience in leadership/management with a background in municipal open spaces, knowledge of CDL laws and requirements, safety rules and regulations (including, but not limited to Dig Safe and confined space entry), computerized documentation and record keeping, including knowledge of creating/obtaining estimates, maintaining a budget and tracking expenditures.
WORK ACTIVITIES: Oversees, directs, schedules and supervises full time staff, temporary workers and volunteers. Plans and schedules equipment and personnel to perform daily assignments related to recreation support structures, water elements, turf, sidewalks, hardscapes, cemeteries and other green spaces. Effectively plans, budgets, prioritizes and obtains materials for upcoming projects and to address customer complaints. Ensures staff and workers are properly trained, follow safety protocols, thoroughly perform vehicle maintenance inspections, and properly report any discrepancies to the municipal garage. Communicates and enforces State and City policies and ordinances while supervising and inspecting projects performed by contractors and Open Space crew members. May cover for other supervisors within the Public Works Department in their absence. Performs other duties as assigned.
