The City of Saco, one of Maine’s fastest growing cities, seeks an experienced code enforcement professional to serve as the Director of Code Enforcement. The Code Enforcement Director is responsible for the administration and enforcement of construction and zoning codes, and other regulatory requirements of the City of Saco. The Director of Code Enforcement acts as the Chief Building Official for the city and is responsible for managing the department’s inspection schedule, budget, management of staff, and representing the city in land use violations and complaints. The Code Enforcement Director is also the local public health officer.
The City of Saco is located at the mouth of the Saco River in southern Maine along the Atlantic Ocean, less than 20 minutes south of the Greater Portland Area, and less than two hours north of Boston, Massachusetts. Home to a growing population of 19k+ residents, a revitalized and repurposed mill district, world-class education system, a thriving economy, and many recreational opportunities, including fishing, hiking, biking, and kayaking, the City of Saco has plenty to offer residents, visitors, and businesses alike. The ideal candidate would have a working knowledge/understanding of municipal zoning, shoreland zoning, experience in building/construction trades, maintaining continued education regarding the current Maine Uniformed Building and Energy Code, National Electrical Code, and Uniformed Plumbing Code. The ideal candidate is certified as a Code Enforcement Officer (CEO) and Local Plumbing Inspector (LPI).
The position requires five (5) years of direct experience on a managerial or supervisory level in a directly related field (engineering, construction management, etc.) or broad supervision of all aspects of construction ranging from single family to commercial/industrial uses and experience in business or municipal governmental operations preferred.
