INTERNAL AFFAIRS ASSISTANT
Picturesque Cumberland County is the State’s most populous county having a population of 289,977. Its
largest city is Portland and the county geographically extends from Casco Bay to the Lakes Region. Cumberland
County has the second largest body of water in the state, Sebago Lake, which provides numerous recreational
opportunities. The County is the economic and industrial center of the state, having a strong corporate
presence of major domestic and international companies. The County has over 400 dedicated employees, all
focused on providing the best customer service to the County residents. Cumberland County is represented
by five elected county commissioners and the county manager runs the daily operations.
JOB PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to provide clerical and administrative support for the
Internal Affairs Investigation Division; supporting the Division’s clerical needs, as well as covering for
the Executive Assistant, the Investigations Assistant, as needed; performs all other related work as
required. Must be organized and able to multitask. Must be able to remain highly confidential.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree preferred. Three (3) years of clerical
and administrative experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have
experience using computers utilizing Adobe Pro and the Microsoft Suite including Excel and Word. Must be
proficient in spelling and grammar and have experience in data entry. Knowledge in the use of SPILLMAN
strongly preferred. Or, the ability to learn this system and become proficient with training. General
knowledge of FOAA laws. General knowledge of contemporary office procedures, practices, and terminology.
Working knowledge of departmental operations. Ability to work cooperatively and productively with
supervisors, co‐workers, County officials, outside agencies, and the general public. Ability to communicate
effectively with staff, County officials, other agencies, and the public. Able to transcribe from recordings. Able
to follow oral and written instruction accurately. Able to organize, prioritize multiple tasks and meet
deadlines for deliverables. Must be able to operate a personal computer and display intermediate skill in
spelling. Able to multi‐task. Proficient computer skills with the IAPro and BlueTeam software programs,
Spillman system, or ability to learn the system and become proficient. Proficient with Microsoft word, report
generation and data entry. Skill in typing, spelling; excellent communications and customer service skills.
