Status:             Full-Time (37.5 hours/week; 8:00a-4:30p Mon-Fri)

Grade:             17 ($19.39 - $26.10 / hour)


SUMMARY: The Social Services Case Worker determines eligibility for applicants for the General Assistance Program and provides general case management and referral services.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree from a two-year college or technical school, and a minimum six (6) months related experience and training, or equivalent combination of experience and education. Must have a valid Maine driver’s license. Experience with social casework, local community resources and working with a diverse population is required, multi-lingual (English, French, Somali) individuals preferred.


WORK ACTIVITIES: Determines initial and continued eligibility of applicants for general assistance by identifying immediate and long term needs; works with applicants and other social service agencies to gather complete social and financial histories and other relevant information; provides case management services such as referrals, assistance with personal, family finance, health, education and employment issues; prepares case histories and completes related clerical work, forms, and documentation necessary; participates in training, staff meetings and other informational avenues to continually update job knowledge in the areas of computer programs, general assistance laws and state and local policies; performs other related duties as required.
