Deputy Tax Collector/Bookkeeper
Freeport is accepting applications for this full-time position. This position provides direct services to the public, and performs administrative functions in the collection, recording, and reconciliation of funds. This position is responsible for the administration of Motor Vehicle and Inland Fisheries & Wildlife registration programs. This position also performs a variety of activities relating to the collection of taxes and other municipal revenues. Work is performed under the general direction of the Finance Director although considerable independence is exercised in following established procedures and routines. Work is reviewed through audits, observation, conferences, reports and evaluation of results.
Graduation from high school or equivalent is required, with courses in bookkeeping, accounting or related subjects preferred. Experience in cash collections, record maintenance, and public contact is desirable, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which permits the effective performance of all job responsibilities. The candidate must be able to work independently; have high attention to detail and have proven customer service and interpersonal skills.
This position is hourly, full-time (37.5-hours per week). Starting pay is dependent on experience. The Town of Freeport offers an excellent benefit package including health, dental, life insurance, income protection, retirement plan choices, paid vacations, sick and holiday time.
