Our new state of the art public safety building includes a fitness center, crime lab, and training rooms. Scarborough Police offers many specialty positions, including Federal and State Drug task force officers, Maine Drug Enforcement, SWAT, Honor Guard, School Resource Officers, Special Enforcement, K9 officers, Community Resource Officers, Traffic Enforcement Officers, Drug Recognition Experts, Motorcycle Officer, Drone Pilots, etc.

Competitive lateral transfer packages are considered for those who are full-time certified.
 
EXCELLENT BENEFIT PACKAGE: The Town of Scarborough offers a competitive starting salary of up to $61,000 plus ample overtime opportunities.  The Town of Scarborough provides its officers multiple retirement options, including MainePERS Special Plan 3C (25yr, 66%, NO age), 457b with employer contribution, 401a with employer contribution, as well as Retirement Health Savings. Included with the comprehensive benefits package is paid time off consisting of 13 floating holidays, 8-16 hours/month vacation, 8 hours/month sick time as well as 32 hours/annually of personal time, and compensatory time. Excellent low rate healthcare, dental, vision, income protection and other supplemental benefits are available, such as college stipend, class reimbursement, and physical agility test stipends. 

Position Requirements: A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required; official certification as a full time police officer holding a license from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or the ability to obtain such license is required; possession or ability to obtain a valid class C State of Maine Motor Vehicle Operators License. Additionally, candidates must have strong personal computer skills as well as the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the specific field. Candidates will be required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the community, the police department, and other agencies. Candidates are required to have the ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the Town’s discretion.
